Ashlee Simpson Ross
Ashlee Simpson is the younger sister of singer and actress Jessica Simpson. She began her career as a back-up dancer for her sister (so cute) and appeared in television commercials at the age of 15. Ashlee later pursued a career as an actress and had a main role on the family drama 7th Heaven. I remember when television was like this. The WB also had tv shows like “The OC” and “What I Like About You” with Amanda Bynes. It was just a different feeling being able to watch tv back then. Now you have to pick a streaming service and then a show. Call me old fashioned but this and commercials were just better. Before we get into the nighttime routine, let me introduce you to Ashlee Simpson Ross.

The Early Days of Ashlee Simpson
Ashlee also made an appearance on her sister Jessica’s reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica on MTV. Believe it or not, they still had music videos on MTV at this time. While working on her debut studio album, she became the star of her own spin-off reality series, The Ashlee Simpson Show. This show is such a great time capsule for the 2000s. The fact that she mentions Ryan Cabrera as just a friend and she lives by to him being her boyfriend is so crazy to me! This was a time where reality tv was not scripted fights, just real life. Ashlee was just 19 when she started this show and it’s so weird looking back at it now. I was in 8th grade, just 14, when I would watch this after school. Ashlee and Jessica Simpson used to be so cool. You just had to be there.
If you don’t know who Ryan Cabrera is, that’s another rabbit hole for you to go down. He and Ashlee Simpson dated for a while, and she was in one of his music videos “On the Way Down.” The lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls co-wrote this song with Ryan, so if it sounds like the same vibe, that’s why. Pretty cool, huh?
If you’re new to Ashlee Simpson Ross or you have been here since the “Autobiography” days, you are in for a treat! This blog post is dedicated to her nighttime routine and skincare products that she used in her Harper’s BAZAAR interview. As a licensed Esthetician, I will give you my professional opinion on these products and if they are worth your time. Let’s dive in!
Go To Bed With Me Nighttime Routine
This video is a little interview with Ashlee Simpson Ross in her bathroom. She talks to the camera and tells us which skincare products she likes to use before bed and talks a little bit about her sister Jessica Simpson. They are both still very close, even today. Harper’s BAZAAR has this “Go To Bed With Me” series of different celebrities and their skincare routines. If you guys love this post, I may do more just like it.
I haven’t tried any of these products yet, so my commentary on them will mostly be from looking at the ingredients and if I’ve seen any noteworthy reviews. Let’s start at the beginning of the video in order of appearance.
Chanel Gentle Bi-Phase Eye Makeup Remover
The Chanel “Gentle Bi-Phase Eye Makeup Remover” also shows up as “DÉMAQUILLANT YEAUX INTENSE Eye Makeup Remover” on the Nordstrom website. So, make sure that you see the “Bi-Phase” writing on the bottle. There is another makeup remover from Chanel that has slightly different writing on the actual bottle. I haven’t tried this makeup remover myself, but according to the reviews it was the best makeup remover that customers had ever used up until 2023.
I’m not sure if the brand publicly said that they changed the formula, but people were saying that the formula was different, and they didn’t like it. There were a few reviews from 2024 that said it was a great makeup remover and that they had tried it “in store” from one of the makeup counter girlies. Based off of the mixed reviews, I would try your luck in store and see if you can get a sample or at the very least a smaller size. Nordstrom typically has a really great return policy if you’re unhappy with a product.
A cool thing about this makeup remover though, is the extra benefits. Rosewater and cornflower water both having soothing properties to them. In my professional opinion, with the eye area being so delicate, these are great ingredients to add to a makeup remover.
Key Ingredients
Benefits of Rosewater
Rosewater has many benefits for your skin, heck, you can even make your own at home to drink! Rosewater in this makeup remover is used to soothe your eyes, but it will also help with some anti-aging benefits as well. As an added benefit, Rosewater can also be used for sun damaged skin and it’s antibacterial. This is great if your skin is acne prone if you’re using it on other parts of your face and body.
Benefits of Cornflower Water
Cornflower as a plant is used for medicine and tea and can help with a myriad of ailments. For topical uses, it has antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory. This is great for puffy eyes from allergies and all-around skin health. Historically, cornflower is known for its use as a soothing eyewash, especially in France. With its anti-inflammatory qualities paired alongside its antiseptic properties, the herb is believed to be an effective eyewash when treating conjunctivitis. Pretty cool, huh?
Product Information
What it is: A gentle eye makeup remover with extra benefits.
Who it’s for: All skin types
What it does: “The remover features a two-phase formula: a water phase enriched with rosewater and cornflower water, which are known for their soothing properties, and a highly purified oil phase that removes makeup without leaving behind a greasy residue.”
How to use:
- Shake the bottle well before use so that the two phases blend into a homogenous, exceptionally beneficial solution.
- Sweep a cotton pad moistened with the remover and sweep over eyelids to remove makeup.
- Repeat on lashes, from root to tip. If necessary, leave the moistened cotton pad on the lashes for a few seconds.
- It can also be used to remove lip makeup
If you would like to purchase the “Gentle Bi-Phase Eye Makeup Remover” by Chanel, you can buy it here from Nordstrom.
Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser for Nighttime Routine
I haven’t used this specific foaming cleanser, but I have used the one from Pacifica and I loved it for makeup removal. In the product description it says that Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser is great for makeup removal and this is why. The cleanser transforms into a soft, fine mousse that goes deep into your pores to remove makeup, impurities, and pollutants while soothing, softening, and hydrating the skin. If you are wearing a full face of makeup complete with foundation, I would recommend using this in the shower and letting the steam work its magic. The steam from the shower will “open” up your pores and really let the product get down in there to remove the makeup. This is similar to what I would do in my facial practice with my professional steamer.
Portable Steamer
If you don’t want to wash your face in the shower or you just don’t have the energy to take a shower at the moment, I get it. I do. If a more realistic solution for you is something simple and relatively quick, I would recommend using a small portable steamer. I personally like the Senia Hot and Cold steamer from Vanity Planet. I bought my first “at home” steamer during the pandemic and it was my self-care comfort product. It lasted for at least 2 years before it finally died on me. I used it weekly, though, so I got my money’s worth for sure. I recently bought a new steamer, the same one just updated, and I can’t wait to try it out! This is the one that I bought:
If you would like to purchase the Senia Hot and Cold Facial Steamer, you can buy it here on the official Vanity Planet storefront on Amazon.
Key Ingredients
Organic Gentian: this plant is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Organic Lemon: Lemon is a natural cleanser and exfoliator which is why they put it in this cleanser. There are also a lot of other benefits to having lemon in a cleanser. It has Vitamin C that helps to form collagen, helps to improve acne and blackheads, while also helping to lighten dark spots from sun damage. Due to its high pH levels, lemon also helps decrease oil on your skin (perfect for acne prone people) and it helps to reduce inflammation.
Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera has a lot of amazing benefits for your skin. In this cleanser it would be used for hydration, calming redness and helping with inflammation as well.
Product Information
What it is: Moisture-rich, gentle foaming cleanser for normal to dry skin types removes makeup, impurities + boosts hydration for a soft and supple complexion.
Who it’s for: People with normal or dry skin
What it does:
- Gently dissolves makeup, impurities + pollutants
- Soothes + softens dry skin
- Reinforces skin’s hydration
How to use:
Apply to face and neck, morning and evening.
L’Oreal Paris Pure Sugar Scrub for Nighttime Routine
I am actually not a fan of this as a facial scrub, which is what it is advertised as. As you can see in the picture below, the granules are pretty big. As a lip scrub, I think it works much better and that is how Ashlee is using it in her nighttime routine. Bigger granules are used because they are great for getting rid of the dead skin on your lips that take a bit more effort to get off of your actual lip. This scrub is made with 3 fine sugars for “a gentle exfoliation“. This would lead me to believe that the scrub dissolves as you are using it, which is ideal.
The impact of the scrub isn’t as bad when the product is dissolving as you use it. Overusing a lip scrub will hurt your skin’s barrier, just like over-exfoliating on your face will also do that. Like the infamous St. Ives scrub, bigger granules cause micro-tears in your skin and will cause long term skin damage. I personally love lip scrubs that last long enough to get the job done and are effective, but more on the finer granule side. I only use a lip scrub once a week. The rest of the week I use a lip mask.
Key Ingredients
Brown Sugar: Brown sugar is a great source of glycolic acid which is the smallest alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). Because of its size, these molecules can penetrate deep into the skin. It also loosens the bonds of skin cells and promotes new cell growth.
Blond Sugar: Blond sugar has fine granules that effectively remove dead skin cells without being too abrasive. This makes it ideal for delicate lip skin, which is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of the face. Additionally, sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it helps draw moisture into the skin, keeping lips soft and hydrated. Many lip scrubs combine blonde sugar with nourishing oils like coconut or jojoba oil to further enhance hydration and smoothness.
White Sugar: White sugar acts as a natural exfoliant that helps to remove dead skin cells while also providing hydration due to their humectant properties.
Product Information
What it is: Pure Sugar Scrub made with 3 pure sugars and grapeseed oil.
Who it’s for: All skin types
What it does: It is an exfoliating face and lip scrub used to smooth and glow, melting into skin for deep yet gentle exfoliation.
How to use: For best results use 3 times per week. *
*I know it says 3 times a week, but I personally do not agree with this much exfoliation. Once a week to start and see how your skin reacts to the scrub. At the most, use twice a week with a few days in between. Please be kind to your skin and don’t overdo it.
Charlotte Tilbury Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask for Nighttime Routine
Charlotte Tilbury is quite the character. Just watch any of her commercials and you will see exactly what I’m talking about. Using a mask before bed is a great idea, especially if you can sleep in it. This “Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask” I would consider using as a replacement for the other oil that she brings into this routine. They each do different things, but at some point, it’s just too many products for your skin to absorb. This mask was inspired by Korean beauty and infused with supercharged ingredients, including vitamins, floral extracts, peptides and oils. I think it’s interesting to see Shea Butter and Mango Butter in a mask. Normally you would see these in their usual form as a body lotion or in a moisturizer.
Key Ingredients
Niacinamide: Niacinamide is also known as vitamin B3, and has been widely studied for its skin benefits, including reducing inflammation, improving your skin barrier, and brightening your complexion.
Shea Butter: Shea Butter is moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and has skin barrier-repairing properties.
Mango Butter: Mango Butter is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids that are used for skin hydration, protection, and repair.
Sea Fern Extract: Sea Fern Extract has antioxidants, is anti-inflammatory, and photoprotective properties. Research also suggests that it helps protect your skin from UV damage, reduce inflammation, and support skin barrier function.
Crocus Bulb Extract: Crocus Bulb Extract stimulates the growth factor communication between the epidermis and dermis, promoting skin regeneration and collagen production. Research suggests that it enhances the synthesis of matrix proteins like collagen and elastin, making it beneficial for anti-aging and skin repair.
Peptide Complex: Peptides are widely studied for their skin-rejuvenating properties, including collagen production, wound healing, and anti-aging effects.
Product Information
What it is: The Dry Sheet Face Mask can be used up to 3 times.
Who it’s for: It doesn’t say which skin type this is for on the website, so I will give you my professional opinion on this. If you have normal, combination, or dry skin it would probably work great for you. If you are acne prone, I’m not sure if the Mango or Shea butter would be good for your skin. It may clog your pores. If it works for you please let me know in the comments below.
What it does: Hydrates, visibly smooths, brightens and reduces the appearance of wrinkles for a dewy, plumper-looking complexion.
How to use:
- Unfold your Dry Sheet Mask and place the pink side onto cleansed skin.
- Loop the top and bottom hooks over the ears, positioning the mask comfortably over the face.
- Leave it on for 15 mins and gently massage on top to activate your Dry Mask.
- The mask stays dry and drip free! Remove the mask from your face to reveal the “instant Hollywood celebrity facial effect”. Replace the mask in its packet so you can use it again.
If you would like to buy the Instant Magic Facial Dry Sheet Mask from Charlotte Tilbury, you can purchase it here.
La Mer “The Eye Concentrate” for Nighttime Routine
I also love using an eye cream before bed, but I also put one on in the morning too. If you haven’t tried “The Eye Concentrate” from La Mer, so let’s get into it together. I really like the applicator wand. It looks very sturdy, and you can put it in the freezer to depuff your eyes as well. Meaning the material isn’t a plastic tip, but a metal one. And it better be for $275 dollars! This product is easy enough to use and a little product will go a long way. Even the amount this model is using in this “how to” video is probably too much product. Remember, you can always add more if you need it.
Key Ingredients
Concentrated Miracle Broth™: It delivers youth-essential energy, healing hydration and strength to the delicate eye area.
THE Clarity FERMENT: This helps diminish the look of undereye darkness by reducing excess melanin that can gather in the eye area as a result of irritation and stressors, revealing a stronger, visibly revitalized look. Powered by a complement of intensive actives, including brightening molasses and a soothing Recovery Kelp sourced from the pure waters off South Korea’s Jeju Island.
The Plumping Amino Protein: This supports skin’s most youthful look and feel by helping to recapture fuller, lifted looking contours and a younger-looking shape.
Product Information
What it is: A multi-dimensional eye treatment targets visible signs of aging in the eye area.
Who it’s for: The cream doesn’t look too thick so all skin types should be able to use this.
What it does: Reduces the look of lines and wrinkles, lifts the look of the eye area, firms’ skin’s feel, and strengthens skin, for a brighter, revitalized look
How to use:
- Twice daily, dab a small amount onto applicator and gently massage onto eye area for increased micro-circulation.
- Store your La Mer’s eye treatment applicator in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 minutes for a cool depuffing treatment.
If you would like to purchase “The Eye Concentrate” by La Mer, you can purchase it here on their website. If you use the code WAVESWELCOME, you will get $75 off any $350 purchase when you join the Waves de la Mer loyalty program.
Dior Prestige Night Creme for Nighttime Routine
If you had to guess how much this product was, how much would you guess? Did $800 US dollars come to mind? Me either. She is married to Diana Ross’s son, and she is doing well for herself, so she’s got it like that. I am still shocked! If you look at Dior’s other products, you will find some more reasonably priced items that are in the $35 US range. It’s quite a jump. Dior doesn’t have this specific night cream anymore in their Dior Prestige Line. Their new prestige line has updated products like this one. Prestige Le Baume de Minuit Overnight Cream is still an overnight cream, just updated with a new look as well.
Key Ingredients
Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is widely studied for its hydrating, anti-aging, and skin-repairing properties.
Meadowfoam: Meadowfoam seed oil is known for its moisturizing, antioxidant, and skin-protective properties.
Shea Butter: Shea butter is well-known for its moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and skin barrier-repairing properties.
Product Information
What it is: A powerful night cream formulated with midnight Rosa peptide that helps reveal visibly denser and more rested and radiant skin.
Who it’s for: People with dry skin, but people with normal and combination skin could use it during the dry and winter months.
What it does: Helps accelerate nocturnal skin revitalization and helps to rejuvenate skin after the day’s external stress.
How to use:
- Apply each night after cleansing and prepping skin with your serum.
- Warm a generous, pea-sized amount between your hands.
- Inhale the delicate fragrance to help relax the senses.
- Massage and smooth over the entire face using wide, upward strokes, moving from the center out.
- Extend the anti-aging skin care routine by applying to the neck and décolletage.
La Mer “The Neck & Decollete Concentrate” for Nighttime Routine
In comparison to the last product, this is less than half the price at a cool $340 just for her neck cream. I mean, I get it. If you have the money to spend, what you do with it is your business. The neck cream comes with a little brush to apply the product to your neck. I don’t really think you need that to be honest. Just dab your clean finger in there and apply it normally. Especially at the end of the day, you aren’t really going to have the energy to then go and clean the brush and have it ready for the next day. The base of the brush looks really sturdy though. For the price tag, I would expect that.
Key Ingredients
Miracle Broth™: This is a formula that La Mer makes in house. It helps with cell-renewal and calms redness in skin.
Lime Tea Concentrate: This is an antioxidant powerhouse that neutralizes free radicals and helps to protect skin from pollution and other environmental factors.
The Strengthening Ferment: This is made with marine-based ingredients to help support your skin’s natural fibronectin and collagen.
Product Information
What it is: A neck and upper chest cream.
Who it’s for: The website doesn’t state anyone specific or a skin type, but I would say neck care is something you start to worry about in your 30s and up.
What it does: The Neck and Décolleté Concentrate hydrates and rejuvenates for a younger-looking neckline.
How to use: Gently smooth onto neck and décolleté, then massage in upward motions morning and evening. For optimal results, follow with your La Mer moisturizer.
If you would like to purchase “The Neck and Décolleté Concentrate” by La Mer, you can purchase it here on their website. If you use the code WAVESWELCOME, you will get $75 off any $350 purchase when you join the Waves de la Mer loyalty program.
Nyakio Manketti & Mafura Anti-aging Oil for Nighttime Routine
Nyakio Beauty was originally founded by Nyakio Grieco, inspired by African beauty rituals and globally sourced ingredients. The brand focused on clean, sustainable skincare, featuring products like Sweet Almond Cleansing Oil Balm, Manketti & Mafura Anti-Aging Oil, and Baobab Youth Infused Daily Defense Crème.
Later, Nyakio transitioned into Thirteen Lune, an inclusive beauty retail platform highlighting BIPOC-founded brands. She also launched Relevant: Your Skin Seen, a skincare line designed for melanin-rich skin. However, Thirteen Lune faced financial difficulties, leading to a restructuring and acquisition by SNR Capital.
Nyakio Grieco has been accused of embezzlement and fraud in a civil lawsuit, with allegations of misusing company funds for personal expenses. She has denied the claims, stating that the disputed charges were approved by previous management and calling the allegations baseless.
The Nyakio website is not functioning like it should and I could only find products on eBay. This is not what I was expecting to find when I researched this brand. Nyakio had really great reviews from a lot of different sources. They were exclusively at Ulta for a little bit and I’m assuming as part of the DEI program, they were also in Target. Now they are in neither. Whether or not Nyakio embezzled money or not, the brand is no more. So, unfortunately you can only get their products through private sellers.
Key Ingredients
Manketti Oil: Manketti oil, also known as Mongongo oil, is rich in fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin E, making it beneficial for skin hydration, protection, and repair.
Mafura Oil: Mafura oil, also known as Natal Mahogany Oil, is rich in essential fatty acids like palmitic, stearic, and linoleic acids, making it highly moisturizing and skin protective.
Product Information
What it is: A facial oil
Who it’s for: I don’t have access to the website as a resource but looking at the ingredients I would say dry, normal and combination skin.
What it does: It was designed to nourish aging skin and promote a youthful radiance. It features a blend of cold-pressed Manketti and Mafura oils, which are rich in unsaturated fatty acids that help soften and hydrate the skin.
How to use: After cleansing, lightly massage three to five drops onto the face and neck. It can be used morning and evening.

Conclusion
Well, that was way more exciting than I was anticipating it to be! I hope you enjoyed this blog post and the little bit of “tea” we got from Nyakio brand scandal. What a shame that after 20 years in the beauty industry, this is how the founder ends her career (for legal purposes…this is allegedly). Some of these products are pretty relatable and others are a bit out of touch with reality. After all, Ashlee is just one of the girls. Let me know your thoughts in the comments down below. I would love to know what you think of some of these brands and their products. Welcome to the Bae Leaf Beauty Blog Community!
