Beltane & Beauty Rituals
Beltane (May 1)
What is Beltane?
Beltane, celebrated on May 1st, marks the Celtic beginning of summer beauty. A fire festival devoted to fertility, vitality, and the return of light. It’s one of the four major Gaelic cross-quarter days, positioned between the spring equinox and summer solstice. Historically observed in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man, Beltane rituals honored the land’s awakening and the union of masculine and feminine energies.
Bonfires were essential to the celebration. They were lit on hilltops to purify, protect, and ignite abundance. Couples would leap through flames for fertility and a blissful union, while others leapt for good luck. People would adorn their homes with yellow flowers and dance around the maypole to weave intentions into the season. The veil between worlds was said to thin, making it a potent time for spirit work, sensuality, and planting both literal and symbolic seeds. In the Getty Image below is the “Green Man” and the “May Flower Queen”. The implementing of them into this celebration is fairly new but makes for a great visual of what Beltane is about.

Beltane: The Celtic Fire Festival
In ritual practice, Beltane invites heat—passion, growth, and embodied magic. It’s a time to celebrate what’s blooming, to feed altars with firelight, and to move boldly toward what you desire. This video “Beltane: The Celtic Fire Festival” from Jacob Toddson is a great example of what the modern-day celebrations look like in Scottland and a little history behind the Beltane holiday itself.
Seasonal Botanicals & Beltane Symbolism
As Beltane unfolds in early May, the veil between intention and manifestation thins. This cross-quarter fire festival marks the union of passion and fertility, sparking creativity and celebration as spring deepens into summer. The season’s botanical allies aren’t just aromatic—they’re archetypal, evoking the sensuality and sacred vitality that define Beltane’s essence.
Jasmine, with its night-blooming seduction and lunar resonance, reflects Beltane’s themes of romantic awakening and emotional openness. Often linked to feminine archetypes, it’s used to honor beauty, devotion, and the magnetic pull of desire.
Ylang-ylang, lush and euphoric, opens the heart and sacral centers. Its playful depth supports intimacy and joy, making it a favorite for rituals centered on union, pleasure, and self-love.
Saffron, golden and solar-aligned, calls in vitality and sacred heat. It’s used to amplify creativity, illumination, and Beltane’s fiery spark—perfect for incense blends or altar anointing.
Together, these botanicals support rituals that:
- Honor the Empress archetype and seasonal fertility
- Activate the sensual and creative centers
- Celebrate Beltane’s themes of light, union, and ecstatic embodiment
Infuse them into your practice via perfumes, bath rituals, or altar arrangements as you align with May’s energetics—where beauty isn’t ornamental, but intentional.
Diptyque Satin Body & Hair Oil
May opens with saffron’s solar heat—dry, golden, and insistent. Diptyque’s Satin Oil for Body and Hair channels that energy through jasmine, ylang-ylang, and saffron, a trio drawn from the sun-drenched climate of Rhodes. Rhodes, a Greek island steeped in myth and maritime history, is known for its intense light, coastal winds, and ancient rituals of beauty and indulgence. The oil evokes that landscape: radiant, elemental, and lush with contrast.
In ritual, saffron marks thresholds—hunger, ambition, desire. This is a month of ignition, flame without frenzy. Pair with salt-forward scents to amplify its charge. If your altar’s been quiet, let this be the moment it feeds on heat and intention.

First Quarter in Leo (May 4)
The First Quarter Moon arrives in Leo on May 4th, igniting a pivotal shift from stillness to momentum. Leo’s fixed fire charges this lunation with expressive ambition and creative assertion—ideal for clarifying intentions set at the New Moon and taking bold, performative action. The energy is theatrical without being frivolous, encouraging purposeful visibility, sovereign self-expression, and unapologetic radiance.
This lunar phase in Leo is a cue to:
- Amplify your visibility and voice
- Reaffirm rituals of pleasure, joy, and beauty as sources of power
- Align with a more regal or audacious archetype (The Sun, The Queen, The Performer)
Use this moment to magnetize rather than chase, letting charisma lead your creative or relational pursuits. It’s not about perfection—it’s about resonance and confidence, even mid-process.
Vilhelm Parfumerie Black Citrus Eau de Parfum
As Leo’s heat begins to stir, Vilhelm Parfumerie’s Black Citrus Eau de Parfum captures the day’s exact tension: brightness pierced by storm. This scent feels like the exhale after creative friction—London rain washing through intensity, leaving a zesty, clarified presence in its wake.
Top notes of Calabrian bergamot and cardamom echo the Leo Moon’s solar charge and spicy assertion. Violet and patchouli anchor the drama with velvet and earth—evoking that mid-phase lunar pause between initiation and culmination.
Black Citrus becomes a fragrance ritual for First Quarter clarity:
- A reminder that boldness isn’t always loud—it can be crisp, pared back, and elegantly defiant
- An olfactory embodiment of Leo’s fixed fire moderated by air and water—the scent of poised ambition
Wear it as you script the next act of your intention, walking through the rain with shoulders squared and scent trailing like confidence.

Full Moon in Scorpio (May 12)
The Full Moon in Scorpio marks a turning point in May’s cosmic terrain. Known for its association with transformation, intensity, and the unseen, Scorpio activates the deeper layers of our psyche. This lunation invites honest emotional inventory, especially around control, jealousy, or buried resentment. Its energy isn’t passive—it demands purging, recalibration, and psychic reintegration.
Rituals centered on release are especially potent under this moon. Whether through journaling, salt baths, or guided meditation, this is the time to disentangle from energetic stagnation and set clearer boundaries. Scorpio’s Pluto rulership compels renewal, often through discomfort, but always with the promise of power reclaimed.
This depth work isn’t limited to emotional terrain—it’s mirrored in how we care for our physical selves, too.
Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask
As this moon exposes hidden layers, your skincare should follow suit. The Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask is formulated to detoxify without stripping, drawing out impurities via black moor mud, activated charcoal, and volcanic ash. It echoes the moon’s demand for clarity, extracting congestion while oxygenating the skin’s surface.
Integrating this mask into your ritual makes sense: it aligns with the Scorpio archetype of purification through confrontation. Let it work while you write, reset, or reflect, knowing that the healing process—like skincare—is most effective when it reaches below the surface.

Purifying, decongesting and hydrating mask with odorless Irish Moor Mud draws out dirt, oil and impurities as it infuses skin with moisture and vitamins.
How to Use:
- Using fingertips, apply evenly on clean skin.
- Leave on for up to 10 minutes.
- Remove with a warm, damp washcloth and rinse skin thoroughly of any remaining residue.
- Use 2-3 times a week, or as desired.
Pro Tip: I like using this mask before I get into the shower. You can put it on your face, neck, ears, and chest and let the steam from the shower do its thing. It takes a little bit of time to open up those pores but give it 10 minutes at least and let the mask get all of the dirt and sebum out.
This video below from Peter Thomas Roth gives examples on how you can use their masks together. In the esthetician room, I have done this before as well. Some areas of the face need a deep cleaning from congestion while other parts of the face need more of a hydrating treatment. After watching this video, perhaps you will be inspired to do some multi-masking of your own! Make sure to read the ingredients if they are masks that have exfoliating ingredients. You don’t want to hurt yourself or over exfoliate.
Key Ingredients
Irish Moor Mud
Harvested from a 9,000-year-old bog in Ireland, Irish Moor Mud is naturally rich in bio-minerals, amino acids, vitamins, and fatty acids. It helps draw out impurities while infusing skin with moisture and antioxidants, supporting renewal and protection against environmental damage. While direct scientific data on Irish Moor Mud is limited, broader studies on therapeutic muds highlight their detoxifying and restorative benefits, making this ancient ingredient a luxurious nod to nature’s healing traditions.
Hijiki Seaweed
This nutrient-dense black sea vegetable delivers calcium, iron, and essential vitamins B1, B2, and C. On the skin, hijiki enhances hydration and provides gentle nourishment, helping maintain balance and resilience. Its mineral-rich profile makes it a soothing, replenishing addition to skincare, echoing the ocean’s restorative touch.
Bentonite Clay
Celebrated for its detoxifying power, bentonite clay contains healing minerals that revitalize the complexion. It helps shrink the appearance of pores, refine texture, and acts as a natural exfoliant for smoother, clearer skin. Its purifying properties make it a trusted ally for those seeking balance and renewal.
Activated Charcoal
Known for its unparalleled ability to absorb toxins and excess oil, activated charcoal deeply purifies clogged pores without over-drying. It’s especially effective for oily, congested, or acne-prone skin, leaving the complexion clarified, refreshed, and visibly refined.

Last Quarter in Aquarius (May 20)
This final lunar phase before the Gemini New Moon arrives with cool detachment and sharp clarity. In Aquarius, the Last Quarter Moon nudges us to assess our broader purpose, especially where individuality clashes with collective responsibility. It’s an air sign moment—ideal for breaking outdated patterns, editing group dynamics, and refining ideas that emerged earlier in the month. You might notice shifts in your friendships, your digital presence, or your long-term vision. The tone is cerebral, boundary-testing, and future-focused.
Use this lunation to purge what no longer reflects your truth—not emotionally, but ideologically. Aquarius doesn’t process through feelings; it innovates through vision. Rituals might include social media cleanses, rewriting digital bios, deleting old plans, or updating your mission statement to reflect who you’ve become. Think clarity over catharsis.
And just as we recalibrate our mental and social filters, our skin—especially around the eyes—benefits from targeted renewal as well.

Gemini Season Begins (May 21)
Gemini season opens the airways—mentally, socially, and spiritually. Ruled by Mercury, this is a cycle of duality, curiosity, and shape-shifting self-expression. It’s a time to talk things out, write them down, or question your own narrative. Fluid identity, quick thinking, and mirrored connections take center stage. Expect restless energy, flashes of insight, and an impulse to explore both sides of a story.
Gemini’s archetype is the twins, which makes mirrored compacts a perfect symbolic accessory for the season. They serve not just as beauty tools but as portals for reflection—twin surfaces that invite both literal and metaphorical self-examination. Whether you choose sleek, linear designs or retro styles with playful geometry, these compacts offer a ritual moment of pause before the next transformation.
And if the mirror invites reflection, what it frames deserves precision—especially around the eyes.
Victoria Beckham
Before she was synonymous with fashion and beauty, Victoria Beckham was Posh Spice—a defining figure of late ’90s pop culture. As one-fifth of the Spice Girls, she helped launch a global girl-power phenomenon, pairing smoky eye looks with sleek bodycon and an unmistakably aloof cool with her little black dress. Her role in the group cemented her presence not just in music, but in fashion imagery—her style was just as influential as her vocals.
Victoria’s Fashion and Beauty Legacy
After the band’s initial success, Beckham ventured into a solo music career, exploring a more personal and experimental sound while maintaining the sharp aesthetic she’d become known for. Though her solo era was brief, it marked a transition: from pop personality to controlled individual brand.
Her shift into fashion came next—strategic, disciplined, and refreshingly devoid of celebrity excess. Victoria Beckham the label debuted not as a celebrity merch line, but as a legitimate runway presence: tailored lines, architectural elegance, and a commitment to clarity in form and message. Editorial outlets took note. So did luxury consumers.
The natural extension of this clarity was cosmetics. Her beauty line follows the same principles: clean presentation, elevated textures, and product stories built around restraint, precision, and sensuality. I love it when a brand’s identity is clear throughout their lines. Victoria does a lot of “how to” makeup videos on her Tik Tok account so you will be able to follow along with her there. Let’s look at an example of one of her beauty products.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Eye Wardrobe Compact
One example is the Victoria Beckham Beauty Eye Wardrobe—a compact designed to create the smoky eye look she’s known for. It includes curated shades in matte and satin finishes, formulated for layering with minimal fallout and clean ingredients. The packaging is sleek and refillable, and the textures are easy to work with whether you’re following along in one of her tutorials or recreating the look on your own.

New Moon in Gemini (May 26)
The Gemini New Moon arrives with mental velocity and mutable air. It’s a moment to reset the mind’s framework: to refresh habits of thought, untangle contradictions, and give voice to ideas still forming. Gemini is not concerned with permanence—it thrives in movement, duality, and curiosity. This lunation is ideal for setting intentions around communication, learning, and adaptability, especially if you’ve been feeling intellectually stagnant or socially disoriented.
Expect heightened sensitivity to language, subtle shifts in relationships, and an urge to start conversations that haven’t yet found their structure. Journaling, drafting, or brainstorming rituals are especially potent now. You may find yourself asking not just what do I think? but what needs to be said? Gemini is both messenger and mirror.
And while you rewire your internal circuits, your outer ritual can mirror that renewal—from scalp to strand.
Briogeo Curl Charisma Rice Amino and Avocado Hydrating and Defining Hair Mask
New moons call for softness with structure, and Briogeo’s Curl Charisma Rice Amino and Avocado Hair Mask offers exactly that. Formulated with rice amino acids and tomato fruit ferment, it seals the hair cuticle to enhance definition and promote consistent curl pattern—ideal for textural recalibration. Avocado, castor, chia, and flaxseed oils deliver deep nourishment without weight, while hydrolyzed quinoa supports softness and vibrancy.
Much like Gemini’s fluidity in thought and identity, this mask supports curls in their natural motion, offering slip, manageability, and amplified pattern without rigidity. Use it as a tactile ritual while setting intentions, wrapping each section with care as you chart new directions in dialogue—with others and with yourself.

Rice Amino Acids
Amino acids derived from rice help hair retain moisture, reducing friction and breakage for smoother strands. They strengthen from within, supporting scalp barrier health while reinforcing resilience. With cultural roots in traditional Asian beauty rituals, rice amino acids remain a trusted ally for shine and vitality.
Avocado Oil
Rich in monounsaturated fats, avocado oil penetrates the hair shaft to improve mechanical strength and seal cuticle cells. It nourishes deeply, reducing dandruff and scalp dryness while protecting against UV damage. With anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, it restores balance and leaves hair supple and radiant.
Tomato Fruit Ferment
Enhanced through fermentation, tomato fruit ferment boosts curl retention and elasticity while regulating sebum for scalp health. Lycopene, its star antioxidant, supports follicle vitality and guards against oxidative stress. This nutrient-rich ferment energizes hair growth and delivers a fresh, resilient bounce.
Castor Seed Oil
A time-honored remedy, castor seed oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, offering anti-inflammatory care while moisturizing to prevent breakage. Its antimicrobial and antifungal properties support scalp health, while enhancing nutrient penetration. Historically linked to hair regrowth, it remains a staple for strength and resilience.
Chia Seed Oil
Packed with omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and essential amino acids, chia seed oil boosts scalp hydration and barrier function. It improves elasticity and shine, helping reduce thinning and loss. With its nutrient density, chia supports hair growth and leaves strands fuller and more luminous.
Flax Seed Oil
High in omega-3 fatty acids (ALA), flax seed oil calms inflammation while nourishing the scalp. Rich in antioxidants like phenols, flavonoids, and lignans, it strengthens follicles and moisturizes strands. The result: improved shine, manageability, and long-term vitality.
Shea Butter
A deeply moisturizing emollient, shea butter protects against breakage and split ends while soothing inflammation. It supports collagen production and cell regeneration, offering natural UV protection. Ideal for curly and coarse textures, it delivers softness, strength, and luxurious definition.
Sweet Almond Oil
Lightweight yet nourishing, sweet almond oil is rich in omega fatty acids and vitamin E. It improves texture and slip, reducing breakage and split ends while supporting scalp circulation. Gentle and versatile, it may indirectly promote growth while leaving hair silky and smooth.
Hydrolyzed Quinoa
With a complete amino acid profile — including all nine essentials — hydrolyzed quinoa repairs damage and prevents split ends. It enhances shine, protects color, and improves combability for smoother styling. As a natural humectant, it safeguards the scalp and is especially beneficial for low-porosity hair.
Sodium PCA
A powerful humectant, sodium PCA draws moisture into both scalp and hair, improving elasticity and texture. It supports barrier function, is safe and non-irritating, and works synergistically with hyaluronic acid to deliver lasting hydration and resilience.
