Honey Powered Beauty Brands
In a world where beauty trends come and go, a few classic ingredients never lose their appeal. Honey and bee‑derived elements are right at the top of that list. From heritage luxury houses to modern indie brands built on ancestral beekeeping traditions, bees have inspired some of the most compelling stories in the beauty industry.
Why do bees matter so much in beauty? Honey, propolis, royal jelly, and beeswax packed with nourishing, antioxidant, and humectant properties for skin and hair. Brands that use them often bring along deeper stories of heritage, sustainability, and connection to nature. Here, we highlight five beauty brands, from Guerlain’s luxurious legacy to Gisou’s family‑grown honey garden, exploring their histories and dedication to bees.

Guerlain — Luxury Skincare Inspired by Honey
Guerlain’s relationship with bees begins almost as far back as the brand itself. Founded in 1828 by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain in Paris, the house quickly became synonymous with luxury perfumes, skincare, and cosmetics. The bee first became a brand symbol in 1853. Guerlain decorated Eau de Cologne Impériale for Empress Eugénie with bee motifs. This represented both imperial power and natural beauty. That bottle became known as the iconic “Bee Bottle,” and it has lived on as a design hallmark ever since.
In 2010, the brand launched Abeille Royale, a skincare range built around the regenerative and soothing properties of bee products. The line is formulated to support skin repair and resilience, drawing on centuries-old traditions of honey as a healing ingredient. Guerlain even sources exclusive royal jelly and bee honeys with high traceability for its formulations.
Beyond formulation, Guerlain has been actively involved in bee preservation efforts since 2011. Guerlain are also known for sponsoring associations dedicated to protecting rare bee species like the Brittany Black Bee. They have also been partnering with organizations like the French Bee Observatory. Hosting events like Guerlain’s Bee University and participate in World Bee Day awareness campaigns. They are all part of a broader commitment to biodiversity and sustainable practice.
Guerlain’s Women for Bees Program
In 2020, Guerlain expanded its long-standing relationship with honey and bees by launching Women for Bees. A global conservation initiative created in partnership with UNESCO. The program moves beyond skincare ingredients, focusing instead on biodiversity protection through education and sustainable beekeeping.
Women for Bees supports women beekeepers in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, where environmental balance is especially fragile. Participants receive professional training in sustainable beekeeping, along with business education that allows them to build long-term livelihoods while actively protecting local ecosystems.
Angelina Jolie serves as the program’s godmother, helping bring global visibility to the initiative and emphasizing the connection between environmental conservation and women’s empowerment. In addition to Jolie, Guerlain has also spotlighted other women connected to its bee conservation efforts, including actress and artist Charlotte Le Bon, who became a committed ambassador for the brand’s biodiversity initiatives.

Beyond celebrity involvement, the program centers real women beekeepers from diverse regions around the world. Their work — caring for hives, producing sustainable honey, and preserving pollinator habitats — is at the heart of the initiative.
For Guerlain, Women for Bees reflects a clear philosophy: honey-powered beauty should exist in balance with the natural systems that make it possible. By investing directly in education and conservation, the brand ties luxury skincare to measurable environmental impact.

BABOR — German Heritage with Honey
Founded in 1956 by chemist Dr. Michael Babor in Germany, BABOR has always combined skincare science with a conscious approach to nature. While bees aren’t central to every formula, they play a meaningful role in the brand’s sustainability initiatives. In 2020, BABOR transformed a former wild serviceberry plantation near its headquarters into a bioreserve and home for bee colonies. This initiative includes beekeeping alongside tree planting and creating a “BABOR forest”. This demonstrates that the company values protecting pollinators and cultivating healthy ecosystems.
With more research on my end, the “Babor Forest” is actually just a reforestation plot of land on privately owned land. There aren’t any videos or images of it, but to give you an idea of the kind of reforestation they are contributing to, here is a video of the Eifel region near Aachen where they are actively planting trees in Germany.
BABOR HSR LIFTING Anti-Wrinkle Serum
What It Is
Reduces all types of wrinkles by targeting the roots of wrinkle formation. Naturally derived polysaccharides from honey locust seeds help to tighten the skin with instant, visible, long-lasting results. The exceptionally silky texture is perfectly absorbed and generates a luxurious skincare sensation.
Honey Locust Seeds
Despite the name, honey locust seeds have nothing to do with honey or bees. They come from the Gleditsia triacanthos tree, a North American legume that produces long brown pods filled with a naturally sweet pulp. The seeds inside those pods are rich in plant polysaccharides and antioxidants, but they’re entirely botanical.
In skincare, honey locust seed extract is used for its instant tightening and smoothing effect, thanks to its ability to form a lightweight film on the skin. It’s a popular “natural lifting” ingredient, but it’s not a bee product. The “honey” in the name refers only to the sweetness of the pod, not to honeybee–derived ingredients.

Burt’s Bees — One of the Earliest Honey Beauty Legends
Long before honey became trendy in beauty, Burt’s Bees was already turning beeswax and honey into everyday products. The brand was founded in 1984 in Maine by beekeeper Burt Shavitz and artist-entrepreneur Roxanne Quimby, initially producing handcrafted beeswax candles. They quickly expanded into lip balms, soaps, and lotions, all grounded in the idea that nature can provide simple, effective care.
Burt’s Bees became synonymous with natural beauty long before that was a marketing category. The brand capitalized on beeswax and honey not just for their sensory appeal, but for their functional benefits: beeswax helps lock in moisture, while honey’s humectant nature attracts and holds water in the skin. Even after being acquired by Clorox in 2007, Burt’s Bees retained its identity as an accessible, earth-minded brand, with products beloved for everyday use and made with a high percentage of natural ingredients.

Key Ingredients
Lavender
Lavender brings a quiet elegance to hand care. Its naturally soothing compounds help calm visible irritation from constant washing and daily wear, while its gentle antioxidant profile supports the skin’s ability to stay smooth and supple. In a hand cream, lavender adds that soft-focus comfort — easing dryness, softening rough patches, and leaving the hands with a light, feminine veil of floral calm.
Honey
Honey is a natural humectant, drawing moisture into the skin and holding it there for a plush, cushiony feel. Its enzymes help refine texture, while its antioxidants support the skin’s natural repair processes — perfect for hands exposed to sanitizers, surfaces, and the elements. In a hand cream, honey creates that silky, nourished finish that feels indulgent without being heavy, leaving your hands soft and beautifully conditioned.

Key Ingredients
Honey Extract
Honey extract gives the serum its signature silky glow. It acts like a natural moisture magnet, pulling hydration into the skin and holding it there so your complexion stays soft, dewy, and calm. Its soothing nature makes it especially lovely for sensitive or freshly shaved skin, wrapping the face in a gentle, comforting veil that smooths texture and boosts radiance.
Sea Buckthorn Oil
Sea buckthorn oil brings a lush, vitamin‑rich nourishment that helps revive tired, uneven skin. It’s known for its ability to support a healthy barrier and restore a natural glow, making the complexion look refreshed and well‑cared‑for. In this formula, it adds a plush, cushiony feel without ever tipping into heaviness.
Hyaluronic Acid
This form of hyaluronic acid sinks in quickly to replenish hydration where the skin needs it most. It plumps the look of fine lines caused by dryness and gives the complexion that soft, bouncy, well‑rested finish. Paired with honey and squalane, it keeps the skin smooth and supple all day — the perfect canvas for makeup.
Vitamin C
A gentle, oil‑soluble vitamin C that brightens without the sting. It helps soften the look of dark spots, boosts overall radiance, and supports firmer, more resilient skin over time. Because it’s stable and soothing, it layers beautifully in a morning routine, offering antioxidant protection with a luminous finish.
Squalane
Squalane is the whisper‑light hydrator that gives the serum its velvety glide. It mimics the skin’s natural oils, softening rough patches and reinforcing the moisture barrier without feeling oily. The result is skin that feels silky, balanced, and perfectly prepped for the day ahead.
Jojoba Seed Oil
Jojoba seed oil melts into the skin with a weightless, skin‑like feel. It helps balance hydration, smooth texture, and support a calm, comfortable complexion. In this serum, it enhances that soft, satin finish that makes the formula feel instantly luxurious.

Gisou — Six Generations of Beekeeping and Honey
Finally, we arrive at Gisou, the youngest of the five, founded in 2015 by Dutch influencer Negin Mirsalehi and her husband Maurits Stibbe. The brand is rooted in six generations of family beekeeping, with honey harvested from the Mirsalehi Bee Garden outside Amsterdam. Growing up, Negin watched her mother — a trained hairdresser — blend honey into nourishing hair masks that kept the family’s hair soft, hydrated, and shiny. The more she shared about this connection on social media, the more followers asked about her hair routine. What began as sharing family wisdom soon became a beauty brand, built entirely on the Negin’s family carefully tended for generations.
Gisou launched with one iconic hero product: the Honey-Infused Hair Oil, adapted from her mother’s recipe, and has since expanded into masks, sprays, and lip oils — all paying homage to the Mirsalehi family’s honey garden. Every product reflects the blend of heritage, science, and modern beauty rituals that define the brand.
Gisou Honey Gloss Ceramide Therapy Hair Mask

How To Use
You can use this mask in 3 ways:
- As an instant treatment after shampooing: apply generously to lengths and ends, leave for 5–7 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- A pre-wash ritual: apply to damp hair before shampooing, leave for 20 minutes, then wash and condition.
- An overnight deep treatment: apply to dry hair, leave overnight, then rinse and cleanse in the morning.
Pro tip: mix in a few drops of Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil for extra shine and frizz control.

Key Ingredients
Mirsalehi Honey
This is the heart of the formula — a lush, golden humectant that pulls moisture deep into the hair shaft and seals it in. Honey wraps each strand in a soft, glossy veil, helping dry or damaged hair feel instantly smoother, silkier, and more nourished. Its natural vitamins and antioxidants support healthier‑looking hair over time, giving that signature Gisou shine.
Biomimetic Ceramides
Ceramides act like the “mortar” that holds the hair cuticle together. These biomimetic versions mimic the ceramides naturally found in your hair, filling in gaps, sealing roughness, and reinforcing weak or damaged areas. The result is stronger, smoother strands with less breakage and fewer flyaways — especially if your hair is color‑treated or heat‑styled.
Dual‑Weight Hyaluronic Acid
This mask uses two sizes of hyaluronic acid molecules to hydrate on multiple levels. Larger molecules sit on the surface to create a soft, silky moisture barrier, while smaller ones dive deeper to plump and hydrate from within. Together, they leave the hair feeling bouncy, supple, and deeply moisturized without heaviness.
Bee Garden Oil Blend (8 Botanical Oils)
A nourishing blend of botanical oils — including grape seed, safflower, evening primrose, rosehip, and sunflower — drenches the hair in lightweight moisture. Rich in omegas 3, 6, and 9, this blend helps soften rough texture, smooth frizz, and restore natural shine. It gives the mask its plush, cushiony slip while keeping hair touchably soft.
Squalane
A silky, lightweight hydrator that mimics the scalp’s natural oils. Squalane helps smooth the cuticle, reduce frizz, and add a soft, glossy finish without weighing the hair down. It’s especially helpful for dry, brittle, or over‑processed strands.
Panthenol (Pro‑Vitamin B5)
Panthenol acts like a moisture magnet, drawing hydration into the hair and helping it stay there. It adds softness, reduces tangling, and gives the hair a smoother, more polished look. It’s one of the quiet heroes that makes hair feel healthier with every use.
Calendula & Carrot Root Extracts
These plant extracts bring soothing, antioxidant‑rich care to the formula. They help calm the scalp, support overall hair health, and add a touch of natural shine and softness.
The Honey-Infused Hair Oil is Gisou’s signature product, designed to hydrate, smooth, and strengthen hair using pure Mirsalehi honey. If you’d like to purchase Gisou Honey-Infused Hair Oil, click here.
The Sweet Takeaway
Bees have a rich history in beauty, from ancient honey rituals to modern sustainability initiatives. The brands above show how bee-derived ingredients can inspire heritage luxury, scientific innovation, natural care, and modern rituals alike.
By choosing bee-inspired products and supporting brands that actively preserve pollinators, we’re helping protect the tiny creatures that make our food, flowers, and ecosystems possible. It’s a small way to make a positive impact, and every mindful choice helps keep the connection between beauty and nature alive.
