O'o Hawaii Skincare

Snow Mushrooms and the moisturizing benefits from O’o Hawaii Skincare’s Birds + Roses Hydrating and Firming Mask.

O’o Hawaii Skincare helps to protect native Hawaiian plants and animals while giving you excellent results in your skincare. The specific mask I am writing about today is their Bird’s + Roses Hydrating and Firming Mask. Snow Mushrooms are a vital ingredient in this mask, but it also contains crushed-up Rose Quartz crystals in the ingredient deck. This is a beautiful way to incorporate your spirituality into your skincare.

The History of Snow Mushrooms

Snow Mushrooms, also known as Tremella Fuciformis, have anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging effects. They have been used since 200 AD in China. Best known for their role in skincare during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE), they got their nickname “fountain of youth’ mushrooms.

Yang Guifei

According to Chinese legend, there was a woman named Yang Guifei, who was a Chinese concubine for the emperor Xuanzong. When asked about how she kept herself so beautiful and youthful she said it was from eating Snow Mushrooms.

Due to a rebellion, she was forced to commit suicide as it was seen as a more dignified death than execution. In his grief, Xuanzong had this portrait made so he could remember her beauty.

Snow Mushrooms are Moisturizing

There have been many studies looking into the skincare benefits of Snow Mushrooms for decades now. What they found was that Snow Mushrooms hold 500 times more water than Hyaluronic Acid does.

If you are not familiar with how amazing Hyaluronic Acid is, just one teaspoon of HA can hold one and a half gallons of water like the picture below, just add another 1/2 gallon beside it. Now picture 500x that amount!

Snow Mushrooms are Anti-Inflammatory

Snow Mushrooms are anti-inflammatory as well. Why is this good for your beauty routine? I’ll tell you. Rosacea and Acne are both inflammatory skin conditions that need to be regulated. This can be done internally by eating anti-inflammatory-type foods and/ or topically with medicine from your doctor if that is the case.

Rosacea, snow mushrooms

In skincare, we want to proactively help our skin when keeping it clean and moisturized, so it’s also important that we use skincare products that are helping our skin. How do the results show up on my face, you may ask.

Well, both Acne and Rosacea make your skin puffy and red in appearance. Adult acne is more often times than not put into the same category as Rosacea (pictured here on the left) and they look pretty similar.

Why Use Rose Quartz Crystals in Skincare?

Nearly everything in nature has both an electromagnetic field and a vibration. These vibrations resonate at different speeds. Crystals oscillate and hold their frequencies as they have the natural ability to power and support energy fields. This energy can transmit to balance, heal and energize your skin as well as promote healing of the body and mind.

Sapphire crystal, snow mushrooms

O’o Hawaii Skincare uses rose quartz and sapphire crystals in their formulations because they help to increase circulation and blood flow. This not only plumps your skin but over time will help to generate collagen.

Witchy Tip

The history behind Rose Quartz starts in Greek mythology. Adonis, god of plants and rebirth, found himself entangled in a love story with Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. She could not bear to be apart from her lover. This enraged her past lover, Ares, god of war, so much so that he sought every opportunity to exact revenge on Adonis for stealing her devotion away from him.

In the form of a wild boar in the forest, Ares set out to mortally wound Adonis. When Aphrodite overheard them fighting and rushed down from the heavens to save Adonis, cut herself on a briar bush.

Aphrodite and Adonis

She held Adonis in her arms and when their blood combined, it formed anemones in the ground and Rose Quartz gemstones after it stained the white quartz pink. The fusion of their blood led Zeus to show his compassion as he brought Adonis back to Aphrodite for six months a year, leading the Love Stone, Rose Quartz, to become the central symbol of reconciliation and undying love.

How to Add Rose Quartz and Sapphire to Your Practice

Bird's + Roses Hydrating and Firming Mask

Adding Rose Quartz to your skincare routine is a great way to practice unconditional self-love. The act of doing your skincare is an act of self-love in itself. You matter enough to take care of your skin. You matter enough to feel good about yourself.

Bird’s + Roses Hydrating and Firming Mask also has crushed Sapphires in it as well. Sapphire represents wisdom, royalty, prophecy and divine favor; a symbol of power and strength, but also of kindness and wise judgement. Adding Rose Quartz and Sapphire together in this mask is a spiritual act of unconditional self-love and kindness. This is the mindset you should try to have when you apply it to your skin.

How to Use It

Bird’s + Roses Hydrating and Firming Mask

This mask is for all skin types. You would add this mask as the almost last step in your routine. After you have cleansed your face, exfoliated the dead skin, put this mask on if you need it. It’s an important step to prep your skin so that all of the products you are putting on afterward get a chance to work their magic. If your skin is very dry, I would add this to your routine 2 times weekly.
