First things first, this is a mushroom-based skincare serum! It’s very easy to add to any skincare routine whether you are a beginner or experienced in skincare. Second, the purpose of the serum is to brighten your skin while also rejuvenating your skin, making it noticeably moisturized. The 3 key ingredients are Vitamin C, Mushroom extracts, and Jojoba Oil.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is great for anti-aging, pigmentation, and sun damage. On the other hand, Vitamin C can sometimes be very irritating for people with sensitive skin.
Maitake and Reishi mushrooms both have skin-barrier-protecting beta-glucans that can help prevent cell damage and help to soothe redness and irritation. These ingredients work together to make this mushroom-based skincare serum an excellent choice for those with sensitive skin. You should always do a patch test on your hand, however, to make sure your skin doesn’t have a reaction.
What is Mycelium?
This took me a minute to understand. Put simply, mycelium is a fungus that consists of a mass of threadlike strands called hyphae. The mycelium is the main body of the fungus which is the part that you can see with your eyes.
The “fruiting body“, if you will. That is the specific part of the mushroom that makes cells called spores that help fungi reproduce. What does this do for your skin?
The mushroom extract in the serum includes Maitake Mushroom, Reishi Mushroom, Chaga Mushroom, and Cordyceps Sinensis.
These mushrooms combined help with:
- Brightens dull skin
- Protects skin from environmental and UV damage
- Reduces inflammation and redness
- Hydrates and moisturizes
- Supports the skin’s natural defenses
- Improves the appearance of aging and uneven skin tone
Another Use for Mycelium
Mushrooms really are very fascinating. The beauty industry is starting to use Mycelium to replace plastic in hopes to reduce plastic waste in the environment. Mycelium acts like a glue and is grown into molds that can fit any shape, from packaging inserts to sculptures to beauty applicators. A company called Ecovative Design grows mycelium beauty and skin-care products, including eye masks, sheet masks, and makeup wedges. They are also partnering with beauty, fashion, art, and technology brands to customize packaging.
Key Ingredients
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is a great massage oil medium for facial exercises like gua sha. I would use this on my facial clients when they came in to relax. Jojoba oil has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties that are both moisturizing and antimicrobial. I loved using this oil on my acne clients for that reason along with the fact that it helps to promote healing for mild acne.
Normally oil and water don’t mix, but Jojoba has humectant properties which means that it works to attract water to the top layer of the skin, helping to keep the skin hydrated. When Jojoba oil is used in a skincare product, it also adds all of these great benefits to your overall results.
Other Interesting Ingredients
Rosehip Oil
Rosehip Oil is used to brighten your skin, prevent blackheads and reduce inflammation. It also contains linoleic acid, a fatty acid that can aid acne prevention and shrink pimples.
Watermelon Seed Oil
Watermelon Seed Oil is used for its anti-inflammatory properties, calming skin inflammation, and it’s a non-comedogenic oil, so it won’t block your skin pores or end up causing skin acne breakouts.
Sunflower Seed Oil
Sunflower Seed Oil is used for hydrating skin, unclogging pores, minimizing signs of aging, and evens out skin tone. It’s also full of antioxidants like Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and Vitamin D, which means sunflower oil can protect your skin from environmental stressors.
Results for Mushroom-Based Skincare
Shroom Skincare states that you should start seeing results in about 4 weeks. This should be enough time to go through the whole serum and see what your results look like for you.
My Experience with Shroom Skincare

Witchy Tip
Mushrooms have been incorporated into magical rituals all over the world for centuries. Aside from magic mushrooms, which should be used with caution, there are other ways you can use non-hallucinogenic mushrooms from the grocery store that can be used in everyday life.
Intention Setting
While preparing your food, say this affirmation while you add your mushrooms to your dish.
“I’m in constant bloom. I am refreshed, rejuvenated, and reborn.“
You can also set intentions while making other dishes, even if it’s simply putting love into the dish for yourself or your family. If you’re new to eating mushrooms, I would start simple.
- You can buy stuffed mushrooms from the store
- You can add mushrooms to your spaghetti sauce
- Cook the mushrooms by themselves with a little butter in a pan.

My Final Thoughts on Mushroom-Based Skincare
This mushroom-based skincare serum is an amazing option for those who are suffering from acne! This serum is for all skin types, but if you are worried about breakouts this seems to be a pretty safe option to try. With most products, you will have to work with your skin and let it have some time with the product.
