Chinese Acupressure

China

Acupressure originates in ancient China in the year 2000 BCE. There are Archeological finds that show mummies with tattoos in the form of Meridians, also known as your body’s pathways. Meridians map out where the pressure or needle in the case of acupuncture. By the Medieval Era, acupressure and acupuncture were being used widespread throughout China.

The thought behind these techniques is that they stimulate the “qi” or your body’s life force or energy. By improving your body’s energy, you will improve your overall health.

I personally get acupuncture and acupressure done for a variety of reasons, however, I would still recommend seeing a doctor or medical professional if you feel what you have is serious. This treatment is an additional helpful tool, not a replacement for medical treatment. If you decide to have this done, please consult a medical professional first to make sure it’s safe for you to do.

How Does Acupressure Work?

Chinese acupressure

Acupressure treatments apply pressure to specific parts of your body that connect to an ailment. The pressure applied stimulates the flow of energy to your body that a skilled therapist will know where to press. There are 14 main Meridians in your body that tie to your circulatory, lymphatic, and hormonal systems.

The pressure applied also helps with your blood circulation if you are sitting a your job or perhaps have had a pinched nerve, etc. These nerve endings release muscle tension after each pressure treatment.

How to do Acupressure on Yourself

  1. You can do simple acupressure techniques for yourself if you feel stressed before your night-time routine. There are two that I like to do with essential oil, but you don’t have to add scent if you don’t have it or if the scent bothers you. Here are two techniques that I did in my facial room and I currently do on myself at home.

The “An Mian” pressure point is located just behind your ear. Press lightly and take a deep breath. Do this a few times.

The “Yin Tang” pressure point is located between your brows. Press lightly and breath a few times.

Add an Overnight Lip Mask in your Night-Time Routine

2. This next tip is a small something that you can add on to your night time routine. I like to use the Fruit Butter Lip Mask from Seraphine Botanicals. It’s an intensive overnight lip mask that hydrates your lips with Shea Butter & Apricot Kernel Oil. It makes them soft and encourages elasticity while you sleep. It has a vegan formula that is blended with derivatives of Olive Oil. Olive Oil is a great ingredient to help nourish your lips, especially in the colder months of the year. A little bit goes a long way, so try not to use too much. Here is a video of the texture of the mask from Seraphine Botanicals’ YouTube channel.

How to Use

Before bedtime, apply a generous amount onto the lips and leave overnight. This lip mask can also be used during the day as a lip salve. Simply slather it onto your lips before any lipstick or gloss. Again, a little bit goes a long way, so try not to overdo it.

Add a Weighted Eye Mask to your Night-Time Routine

I like using my weighted mask from Barmy. The weight of the mask keeps your eyelids down and helps you stay grounded. This helps me when my thoughts are busy thinking about the day and helps me to stay in the present moment. Relax. It can wait until tomorrow.

Witchy Tip

If you would like to add essential oils to your nighttime routine, adding a diffuser will help you relax. The Aroma Om Stone Mist Diffusers (grey, gold, and white), shown here, are from Saje Wellness.

Saje Wellness, Night-Time Routine

Saje Wellness has an assortment of three bedtime blends made with tranquil and relaxing essential oils to help set the stage for a good night’s rest, including a fan-favorite scent that’s exclusive to this kit.

How to Use

  • Sleep Well roll-on: roll along the wrists, throat, temples, and other pressure points as desired
  • Sleep Well body butter: apply to skin before bedtime as desired. The product is good for 6-8 months after opening
  • Goodnight mist: with eyes and mouth closed, mist the entire face and body as desired while inhaling deeply through the nose

Sleep Well Restful Sleep Oil Blend includes Lavender, also featured in the kit above. The color purple and Lavender, represent your crown chakra. Using an essential oil with lavender will help you drift off to sleep. It will also help lift any energy block that is keeping you from getting a good night’s rest.

My Final Thoughts

Night-Time Routine

You can easily add any of these simple things to your night time routine. Actually, you probably own at least one of these items already. When you can check off all of your five senses, you are most likely to have a better sleep and look forward to your night time routine. Personally, I used to stay up late because I was so busy with work and I had no schedule. Not even a loosely put together schedule planned out.

If you can do at least one thing that makes you look forward to sleeping, I really think this will help you. These of course are just examples, and I would love to hear some of your ideas in the comments below.
