Ways to Love La Mer
In her own words, Kate Hudson invites you on a healing journey to discover her love, fascination, and devotion to La Mer moisture. As we explore her journey in 5 parts, we will also deep dive into the products. Each short film was written and narrated by Kate Hudson. I really like the concept of the films, but when it comes down to it, it’s a bit dramatic to do all this for skincare. Just for fun though, let’s go on Kate’s journey.
Moisturizing Cream
La Mer Moisturizing Cream
This short film is based off of La Mer’s Moisturizing Cream. “Moisturizing Cream” is the “OG” moisturizer that everyone who is a devoted fan of La Mer loves. I’m glad that 8 years later they have decided to keep it and not change the ingredients. The infamous Miracle Broth™ that is found in if not all but most of their products, helps to balance your skin’s sebum levels and prevent irritation.
With this in mind, I would recommend this moisturizer to people who are suffering with acne or are acne prone. It’s so important to keep your skin’s moisture balanced when you have acne. The drier your skin is, the more oil your skin will produce to overcompensate the lack of moisture.
Key Ingredients
Concentrated Miracle Broth™: It delivers youth-essential energy, healing hydration and strength to the delicate eye area.
Moisture Matrix Technology: This is formulated to balance sebum levels, banish excess oil, and renew skin’s youthful bounce for a firmer feel
Meadowfoam: Meadowfoam seed oil is known for its moisturizing, antioxidant, and skin-protective properties.
Lime Peel Extract: Lime Peel Extract has strong anti-aging activity through elastase inhibition, which helps maintain skin elasticity

The Moisturizing Soft Cream
La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream
This moisturizer is for those who want an anti-aging product in their routine. That being said, there is not a specific skin type, just an age suggestion for this moisturizer. In my professional opinion, once you turn 25, you should start to use some type of anti-aging product but nothing too harsh. A moisturizer is a great way to do that without going overboard with too many products. This also saves you money in the long run.
A hydrating moisturizer, drinking plenty of water and sunscreen are a great game plan. For this specific product, La Mer offers an engraving service. You can write whatever you like on it. Personally, I think this is odd. The container is not metal or sold as something valuable to be reused again. It just looks like plastic. I personally wouldn’t do it but do with this information what you like.
Key Ingredients

The Moisturizing Matte Lotion
La Mer The Moisturizing Matte Lotion
Their lotion options have updated quite a bit since the 8 years that this commercial/short film was put out. Unfortunately, La Mer no longer sells this lotion, so you will have to find it either on Amazon or a private seller. They do have some interesting alternatives though including “The Reparative Body Lotion”, “The Treatment Lotion” and “Genaissance De La Mer the Infused Lotion”.
These are both referred to as “watery lotions”. I’m assuming they are more of a milky consistency? It looks like the closest alternative to “The Moisturizing Matte Lotion” is “The Reparative Body Lotion”. The picture with Kate Hudson below has “The Moisturizing Matte Lotion” in it, the other two pictures (far left and far right) are of “The Reparative Body Lotion”.
Key Ingredients
Concentrated Miracle Broth™: It delivers youth-essential energy, healing hydration and strength to the delicate eye area.
Lime Peel Extract: Lime Peel Extract has strong anti-aging activity through elastase inhibition, which helps maintain skin elasticity.
Squalane: Mimics the skin’s natural oils, making it an excellent emollient, and it also has antioxidant properties that help fight free radicals and slow down signs of aging
Algae Extract: Hydrating, anti-aging, and antioxidant properties.
Zinc Gluconate: Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, particularly in treating acne and other inflammatory skin conditions.
Hyaluronic Acid: A powerful humectant that helps retain moisture, making it a key ingredient in skincare for hydration, anti-aging, and wound healing.
Vitamin C: Helps with collagen synthesis, skin brightening, and protection against UV damage.
Vitamin E: A powerful antioxidant that plays a crucial role in skin protection, hydration, and anti-aging.

The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream

The Rejuvenating Night Cream
La Mer The Rejuvenating Night Cream
If you would like an alternative to “The Moisturizing Cool Gel Moisturizer”, it looks like sticking to the original “Moisturizing Cream” is the way to go. Some reviews say they love the night cream, but others have said it was disappointing. The thing about reviews though is you have to weigh in other factors that are unknown. Especially for older women, when our bodies go through menopause, our skin is much drier than it usually is. There can also be other factors like medications people are using or the climates they live in. They have a really good return and refund policy if you’re unhappy, but here is some information so you can make up your own mind.
The calcified brown algae ingredient found in this night cream is a unique subset of macroalgae that incorporate calcium carbonate into their structure. This process, known as calcification, helps them thrive in marine environments, contributing to reef-building and sediment formation. I like that their ingredients are almost always ocean-sourced and the name “La Mer” suggests.
Key Ingredients
Concentrated Miracle Broth™: It delivers youth-essential energy, healing hydration and strength to the delicate eye area.
Calcified Brown Algae: rich in minerals, antioxidants, and polysaccharides, making them beneficial for skin hydration, protection, and anti-aging.
Deconstructed Waters™: Deconstructed Waters is a proprietary ingredient used in La Mer skincare products. According to La Mer, it involves enhancing the structure of water using electrical and magnetic energy fields to improve its absorption and efficacy in skincare formulations.
Product Information
What it is: The Rejuvenating Night Cream
Who it’s for: All skin types. I would recommend this to those who want a retinol result, without the sometimes harshness of a retinol. This is also a great product for acne scars if that’s something you are looking for too.
What it does: This moisturizer is fueled by their NEW marine retinol alternative MRA-3™ that enhances density, complements natural support polymers and speeds cell renewal—all without the irritation of retinol.
How to use: As the final step in your evening routine, pat a small amount between fingertips and press gently into skin. Glide onto cheeks, forehead, chin, jaw, and neck twice daily. Ideal for use at night.

The Moisturizing Soft Lotion
La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Lotion
One can only assume this lotion was meant to be the full body version of the face moisturizer “The Moisturizing Soft Cream”. They no longer sell this product on the website, so my information is gathered from bits and pieces of information from private sellers. This lotion was supposed to be a high potency moisturizing facial lotion. It had a silky. lightweight fluid texture for fast absorption and was formulated with nutrient-rich Miracle Broth to deliver skin renewing energies. Infused with Soft Lotion Capsules to provide continuous moisture it penetrates deeply into skin for healing action. Your skin would appear dewier. smoother. brighter and healthier looking. La Mer suggests that you should try “The Moisturizing Soft Cream” as an alternative.
Key Ingredients
Concentrated Miracle Broth™: It delivers youth-essential energy, healing hydration and strength to the delicate eye area.
Soft Lotion Capsules: They were micro-encapsulated spheres designed to deliver deep hydration while maintaining a lightweight texture. These capsules help the lotion absorb quickly, making it ideal for combination skin.

Conclusion
I think these short films were very on brand for La Mer. It gives the appearance of luxury without being unattainable. For the price tag, I would like to see better packaging. Perhaps glass or something that appears more elegant. For a brand that is very ocean-focused I would personally like to see them be more eco-friendly in their packaging.
It’s also encouraging to see that they realize that the ingredients that they have that are tried and true are still in their products today. I think more companies need to take this approach as they grow. I am all for fine tuning products and balancing the budget-that’s just business for you. At the end of the day, customers will come back time and time again for the products they love.
I would love to know your thoughts on these products and if you see any of your favorites!
If this post inspired you to look at more ocean inspired skincare, you should check out my blog post Beauty Ritual: Red Flower Products or Beach Perfumes & Surf Culture.
I love your insights on La Mer! I agree…luxury can feel accessible, but eco-friendly, elegant packaging would be amazing. It’s great that they stick with trusted ingredients while fine-tuning their products. I’m curious to try some of these myself!
The customers who religiously buy La Mer swear by it, so it’s worth trying sometime!
