Self-Care Ritual for Autumn featuring The Nue Co.Topical -C
It’s cozy season again and I couldn’t be more excited for Autumn! Candles, pumpkin spice lattes, and of course changing up our self-care and skincare routines. When I was giving facials to my clients, I would always recommend a hydrating facial and/or a shift into working on sun damage and pigmentation. After enjoying the Summer, maybe a little too much, sometimes we have sun damage. There are a lot of different ways to go about this, so in this blog post, I’ll give you an example of a self-care ritual you can try this fall featuring The Nue Co.

The Nue Co. has great skincare products that have caught my attention. I first received their Topical-C powder in a Fit Fab Fun box. I looked into other products that they had online and I really liked what I saw. Not only are they environmentally friendly and kind to animals but they will also help you curate a self-care routine that is perfect for your skincare or self-care needs. The 4 products I will go over below are just an example of a self-care routine that you can use for fall. It’s great for anti-aging, hydrating, skin barrier repair, as well as working on any damaging effects from sun exposure.
Barrier Culture Cleanser
If your are looking for a skincare routine that is simple, the Nue Co. is a great company to look into. They also agree that you should keep your skin care routine simple and effective. Their Barrier Culture Cleanser is a soap-free, sulfate-free foaming gel that lifts away your makeup, dirt, and pollution from your day. It also helps to balance your pH levels in your skin. This also helps retain moisture that repopulates your microbiome.
In plain English, this helps to protect your skin’s barrier for a healthy and clean complexion. The directions say there is no need to double cleanse, but if you are wearing a “full beat” of makeup or just a tinted moisturizer, I would argue that you should still need to double cleanse. If you don’t want to over-cleanse your skin, which I feel many of you don’t want, start your morning with one cleanse. Just make sure you are being thorough. One minute for cleansing is all you need.
Who It’s For
- All skin types
- Sensitive skin
- Acne-prone, break outs
- Oily skin
- Dry skin
- Ages 12 and up (the website states all ages, but I would argue younger than 12 is too young)
How to Use
This cleanser will be the first step in your self-care routine. It can be used in the morning and at night. You will need 2-3 pumps of product applied to wet palms. Lather and massage over your skin. I would include your ears, the back of your ears, all the way around your neck, and your chest (décolleté). Rinse clean with warm water and pat your skin dry. I like to leave my skin slightly damp to help the next product absorb into my skin better.
Key Ingredients
Prebiotics
Feeds the good bacteria on your skin for a healthy microbiome.
Probiotics
Repopulates levels of good bacteria to strengthen your skin’s barrier.
Postbiotics
Actively treats and conditions your skin.
Hyaluronic Acid
Holds up to a 1000 times its weight in water to deeply hydrate your skin.
Chamomile
A natural and anti-inflammatory extract that helps to calm and reduce redness in your skin.
Calendula
Full of antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals.
What it Does
Barrier Culture Cleanser is designed to protect and repair your skin’s natural barrier function and replenish your topical microbiome. Over 90% of skin conditions can be traced back to an impaired skin barrier. This can be due to over-exfoliation and not enough moisture in your skin. It also helps to down-regulate redness signals induced by stressors like pollution, stress and perhaps using too many “active” products.
To put that simply, “active products” means any product that is meant to exfoliate or has anti-aging attributes. Using too many of these products without adding in gentle products or using the products correctly will result in redness and sensitivity in your skin. Often times, foaming cleansers that use surfactants will strip the oil from your skin. This cleanser mimics the natural acidic state of your skin, while using hyaluronic acid and calendula to hydrate and soothe your skin at the same time.
Topical-C
My personal experience with adding Topical-C powder to my self-care routine, is that it is very easy to use. You only need to use a little bit of powder and simply add it to whatever moisturizer you already have on hand. My professional recommendation would be that you add it to a moisturizer that does not have any active ingredients in it as I mentioned above with the Barrier Culture Cleanser. This product would be your active product in a calm and cleansing skin care routine.
This product is a vitamin c product. It stimulates collagen production, evens pigmentation and has antioxidants that help with anti-aging and leaves your skin looking bright and glowing. Topical-C uses powdered l-ascorbic acid in the purest form of vitamin c and doesn’t activate until you mix it with your serum or moisturizer. This not only keeps your product potent for a longer period of time, but it also keeps its potency longer. It also has ferulic acid paired alongside it which boosts the effects of the vitamin C. Additionally, Tapioca Starch, Oatmeal, and Aloe Vera are added to provide a calming balance to the potency of vitamin C and calm the redness in your skin.
Who It’s For
- All skin types
- Sensitive skin
- Acne-prone and breakouts
- Oily skin
- Dry skin
- Ages 12 and up (the website states all ages, but I would argue younger than 12 is too young)
How to Use
Mix with your moisturizer or just plain water and apply the powder to your face and neck in the morning. My tip would be to mix the powder into the water or moisturizer until it is fully absorbed into the moisturizer or disolved by the water. You can use this product every day, just in the morning. I would advise that you wear sunscreen when wearing this product, not only because it will protect your investment, but also because your skin will be sensitive. I say investment because you are putting money into this product to help with pigmentation. It will help, however, if you don’t prevent further damage to your skin, you are wasting your time and money.
Key Ingredients
L-Ascorbic Acid
The most pure and potent form of vitamin C for maximum efficacy.
Ferulic Acid
Antioxidant-rich, repairs and protects damaged skin cells
Tapioca Starch
Gently exfoliates for a smoother, brighter complexion.
Colloidal Oatmeal
Reduces redness to calm the complexion
Aloe Vera
A soothing extract that promotes healing and reduces irritation
Reminder
If you are using any products that have glycolic, salicylic acid, or retinol you will need to wait at least 2 weeks until using this product or a product like this. This is to avoid the stinging feeling or redness on your skin.
Barrier Culture Moisturizer
This moisturizer compliments the Barrier Culture Cleanser. It’s a lightweight moisturizer that much like the Topical-C powder has pre-, pro-, postbiotics in it. This formula has ceramides, peptides, niacinamide, and squalane that is formulate to protect your skin’s barrier. Much like the Barrier Culture Cleanser it also helps with your skin’s microbiome, hydration levels, and helps with texture.
Who It’s For
- All skin types
- Sensitive skin
- Acne-prone and breakouts
- Oily skin
- Dry skin
- Ages 12 and up (the website states all ages, but I would argue younger than 12 is too young)
How to Use
Apply 4 pumps to freshly washed skin in the morning and in the evening. In this routine, you would wait a few minutes to apply if you have just applied the Topical-C with just water. If you are using Topical-C with this moisturizer, simply tap a little bit of powder into the pumps in your hand and mix until absorbed. This will be the last topical step in your self-care routine.
Key Ingredients
Pre-, Pro-, and Postbiotics
Replenish good bacteria on your skin’s microbiome. You can find these in the foods we eat as well.
Ceramides
Act like the “glue” between skin cells that form a protective barrier.
Peptides
Amino acids act as building blocks of essential proteins like collagen and elastin, keeping your skin firm.
Squalane
Mimics your skin’s natural oils to deeply moisturize your skin.
Niacinamide
Vitamin B3 builds proteins in your skin, smoothing lines and protects your skin’s barrier.
Cica Extract
Centella Asiatica, or Cica for short, stimulates collagen synthesis to improve firmness and elasticity in your skin.
What it Does
This moisturizer is designed to protect and repair your skin’s natural barrier function. The ceramides in this moisturizer help repair your barrier and protect it from the effects of pollution. This includes from being outside or even during your commute. Another great element of this moisturizer is that it replenishes the good bacteria in your skin which balances your skin’s pH levels. This locks in moisture without overloading your skin with active ingredients and stripping the top layer of your microbiome.
Skin Hydrator
The last recommendation in this self-care routine is a pill! It’s important to tackle skin care issues from the outside, but also dealing with the problem from within will help you get faster and thorough results. This pill also hydrates, boosts elasticity and supports your skin’s barrier from the inside out.
Who It’s For
- All skin types
- Sensitive skin
- Acne-prone and breakouts
- Oily skin
- Dry skin
- Ages 12 and up (the website states all ages, but I would argue younger than 12 is too young)
How to Use
Take 1 capsule daily in the morning with food. This is common sense, but I will say this anyways. Please make sure to talk to a medical professional or your primary physician before taking any supplements.
What it Does
This supplement hydrates your skin and retains moisture levels from the inside out. According to The Nue Co. your skin is proven to feel more hydrated by 21% in 2 months. With the added moisture to your skin, you should also see a difference in smoothing your fine lines by plumping the skin in your wrinkle lines. Test results from The Nue Co. say that your fine lines should appear to be reduced by 18% and your skin’s elasticity is improved by 26% in those 2 months as well.
Pro Tip for Self-Care Routine
Working on your skin takes time. Your body needs to process all the ingredients you are putting on it and in it. This is why I would suggest doing their monthly subscription service. Their products are meant to be taken long-term in order to get the full benefits from them. When you use their subscription service they will offer up to 25% off your order every month. You will have to look at their website to see what is available to you with what you would like to buy.
Sustainability
I like to point out when brands are doing great things for the planet and The Nue Co. is no different. While I couldn’t find a specific charity they work with, they pride themselves on being a sustainable company. You can find more information in detail on their website, but I’ll give you a little snippet. They call themselves a “Climate Positive Business” and they choose to operate in a way that respects the environment.
They do this by working with recyclable materials for their packaging, sourcing ingredients through global community organizations for traceability, and they continue to find ways to offset their carbon emissions. This pouch, for example, it part of the refill method that is used. You buy the original product in a glass container, then when you reorder, you would simply refill the original bottle with the contents of the packet. The packet can be recycled.
Witchy Tip
If you would like to incorporate your witchy self-care practice you can do this by simply looking at the ingredients. The ingredient that caught my attention was Aloe Vera. From a licensed esthetician’s point of view, this is a very healing plant that is great for calming skin and I love it when brands incorporate this plant into their products.
Spiritually, Aloe Vera symbolizes spirituality, good luck, protection, and cleansing. If you would like to use a real Aloe Vera plant from your own backyard, a friend, or the supermarket, you are welcome to do what you like with it. There are many different ways to use it for your self-care routine. In this tip, I would like to suggest using the Topical-C or Skin Hydrator with these intentions in place.
When using Topical-C, I would suggest enchanting the bottle and product with a little glamour magic. Additionally, you can recognize the spiritual properties of the Aloe Vera in the powder as well. You can do this with the Skin Hydrator as well, so that every time you take a pill first thing in the morning, you are setting your intentions for the day.
How Do You Enchant a Product with Self-Care Glamour Magic?
I have a few examples that you can use to enchant items in general, but you can use these for your beauty products as well. Remember, when you are enchanting your items to have the desired outcome in mind. What do you want to feel after wearing or applying this item? How would you like others to respond to you, etc.
Surround your beauty product with crystals that correspond with your intent. Example: Rose Quartz for self-love.
If the item is small enough, you can place it in a jar filled with herbs that represent your intent.
You could also place the item in front of a candle and meditate on your intent (there are intention candles and there are also different colored candles that represent different intentions.)
Anoint the item with an oil, charged water (sun or moon water), or a crystal elixir all corresponding to your intent.
Hold the beauty product in your hands and visualize filling it with the appropriate energy. If you have a hard time visualizing, you can hold the product and speak your intent aloud.
Writing sigils or symbols on a piece of paper near the item in an envelope or folded up. They don’t have to be perfect, remember: you’re not a robot. You can just write the symbols, I wrote the words there for explaining what the sigils mean.
My last suggestion for you would be to pass the item through incense smoke that matches your intent. If you don’t have incense that was made for a specific intention, you can take what you have and speak your intentions into that. We love a practical and economical witch.

My Final Thoughts
A 4-step self-care ritual that is straight to the point is a great way to start the fall season and end your summer. You should enjoy your life and live it outside. Nature is a beautiful, and more times than not, a free way to connect with the divine. As a frequent beach-goer myself, I am hyper-aware of sun damage and how I can avoid it. This routine is perfect for people like you and I who enjoy nature, but don’t want the damaging effects of the sun showing in our skin.
The products mentioned will help with sun damage, hydration, and repairing your skin’s barrier. This is a routine I would encourage into the winter season, or whichever season is cold for you in your part of the world. California may not get snow everywhere, but the subtle weather change is enough to upset your skin. With this in mind and while using my witchy tip, I think you’ll be off to a great start this Autumn!
