What are Cordyceps Mushrooms?
Cordyceps mushrooms are an adaptogen with antioxidant properties. This ingredient is used to provide energy to fuel skin cells.
How do Cordyceps Mushrooms work?
Cordyceps mushrooms support cellular energy for more revitalized-looking skin. They also protect the skin from free-radical-induced damage and help to moisturize your skin. They also have anti-aging properties which makes this mushroom an ingredient that is great if you are in your mid 20s and you want to start adding preventative skincare to your routine.
Mega Mushroom Relief and Resilience Soothing Cream
Let’s dive into the Mega Mushroom Relief and Resilience Soothing Cream. This moisturizer has two different mushrooms inside of it, including our featured mushrooms the Cordyceps.
How to use it:
AM & PM
This moisturizer can be used in the morning and at night in your skincare routine. This is a soothing cream, so if you have recently used a deep exfoliation product, this would be a great moisturizer to use afterward. This moisturizer is also great for those with sensitive skin in general.
What it Does:
Soothes, Calms, Hydrates
This cream-based moisturizer calms and hydrates your skin. It also reduces redness and protects against environmental pollution, which can age us.
When to Use it:
The Final Product
This Cordyceps mushroom moisturizer can be used at the end of your skincare routine. If you are going outside, you will put your sunscreen on after this moisturizer. I would give your moisturizer a minute or two before putting on your sunscreen. You want one product to fully absorb into your skin before adding another product. This will not only make the product work better, but it will also help prevent something called, “pilling”.
*Pilling is when the product will start to fall off your skin in the form of little balls of product! It’s so frustrating and a waste of product.
Key Ingredients:
Reishi Mushroom:
Reishi Mushrooms were first discovered over 2,000 years ago, about 396 BC, in the Changbai Mountains in China. It was called “the mushroom of Immortality” by Chinese Emperors because of its anti-aging properties. What contributes to them having these benefits are two really powerful anti-aging antioxidants called, ergothioneine and glutathione. These prevent premature aging and enhance sun protection.
Holy Basil:
Holy Basil also known as Tulsi, you will find in Ayurvedic methods for healing from the inside out. All parts of the holy basil plant act as an adaptogen. An adaptogen is a natural substance that helps your body adapt to stress and promotes mental balance. That being said, this ingredient is great for anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-oxidant needs for your skin. My first thought was this would be a great ingredient for acne clients as acne is an inflammatory condition.
Lady Thistle Complex:
Lady Thistle Complex, also known as Milk Thistle, is used for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomo][dulatory properties. In simple terms immunomodulatory means it helps your immune system work better. This is one of the world’s oldest ingredients that humans have been using for centuries and how cool is it that we are still using it today?
Hyaluronic Acid:
Hyaluronic Acid helps to keep your skin flexible, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and helps to retain moisture in your skin. Just a quarter teaspoon of HA holds about one and a half gallons of water.
Lactobacillus Ferment:
Lactobacillus Ferment helps with skin inflammation and atopic dermatitis. It’s also commonly found in probiotics that are in Greek Yogurt for example. This works as a DNA repairing enzyme and it can help protect your skin from pollution. It goes by the trade name Leucidal Liquid SF and can serve in a skincare formula as a natural preservative.
Turmeric:
Turmeric is also another great ingredient that helps with inflammation. It is also antimicrobial, has antioxidants, and has anti-neoplastic properties. In simple terms anti-neoplastic means to inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Vitamin E:
Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant that has been used by dermatologists for the last 50 years. It is so commonplace now that it is hard to imagine that it has only been that long. It protects against free-radical damage. There is also some research that says Vitamin E works better when combined with Vitamin C. You can also get great skin benefits from eating Vitamin E rich foods.
Pro Recommendation for Cordyceps Mushroom Skincare:
Mega Mushroom Relief and Resilience Soothing Cream works great for:
- Acne-prone skin
- Impaired skin barrier
- Eczema
Acne
First, the calming and redness-reducing properties in this moisturizer, make it a great choice for those who are suffering from acne. The Hyaluronic Acid ingredient is a great addition as well because keeping your skin hydrated will help prevent future breakouts.
Impaired Skin Barrier
Secondly, if you have used a deep exfoliating product on your skin, this moisturizer would be a great option to use on your impaired skin barrier. Additionally, you really need those calm, cooling and redness-reducing ingredients to get your skin back to a healthy state.
Eczema
Lastly, if you suffer from Eczema, I hope that you are seeing a dermatologist to have your skin condition looked at. While I am not a doctor, I would recommend that if you choose to use this product, it would help you topically and keep your skin from looking red and being dry.
Witchy Tip
You’ve probably heard of fairy rings, which are when mushrooms form in a circle out in nature. There are some stories that say they are good luck. There are also stories that say, don’t step in or on them! The folklore goes, that if you do step in or on a fairy ring, you will be trapped or invisible forever. While I’m not sure that you would be trapped as the story says, but it’s still polite to not ruin nature. It’s best to leave them alone…just in case.
There are many mythical stories surrounding mushrooms dating back to the Roman Empire and in religious Christian paintings. Mushrooms, including Cordyceps mushrooms, have magical properties that are related to death and rebirth.
I like to add mushrooms to my everyday living by adding them into the food I eat. It’s really just as simple as adding them to your spaghetti sauce or eating stuffed mushrooms. If you would like to add mushrooms to other parts of your life, you can check out my other blog post on Shroom Skincare. I also added in an affirmation you can say aloud while preparing your mushrooms.
