What is so Special About Goat’s Milk?

A clean review on handcrafted Goat’s Milk face, hand, and body soap.

I met the founder of Allie’s Naturals, Micheal Currubba, on Instagram and he reached out asking if I would like to try some samples of his handmade goat’s milk soap. I had never tried any kind of beauty product made out of goat’s milk before, so naturally, I wanted to try it. He sent me quite a few samples, and I would love to share my thoughts with all of you.

My First Impressions

I was gifted 7 samples to try and they are as follows:

Bare-Body Bar, Lavender Body Soap, Smooth-Facial Bar, Lemon Aide- Hand Soap, Sea Breeze- Body Bar, Patchouli- Body Bar, and the Espresso- Body Bar.

When I first opened the Allie’s Naturals box the soap came in, it smelled so good! I think the strongest scent I smelled was the Sea Breeze-Body Bar. I could smell that soap the strongest with all of the soaps in the same box. They all have a different scent that relates to their ingredients and what they do. Let’s unbox!

Bare- Body Bar

Face & Body Soap

The BARE- Face and Body Bar lathers mildly which leaves the skin clean and nourished. The scent is non-scented which means no added fragrance. However, it does smell like a light regular soap smell. I don’t personally mind it, it just smells like a nice, clean soap. The bar on the bamboo holder is a sample size.

The Bare- Face and Body pictured here is the full size of the soap which is approximately 4.2 oz.

Key Ingredients

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is very moisturizing and hydrating for our skin. If you have face or body acne, normally I would refrain from recommending this ingredient. In its refined oil state it is less likely to clog your pores. In addition, Coconut also has anti-bacteria properties that also make this a great match for acne prone skin.

Coconut Oil
Olive Oil

Olive Oil

Olive Oil has properties that help with maintaining tissue integrity and homeostasis which is key to cell repopulation in wound repair. Additionally, this would be great for acne-prone skin as acne is basically tiny wounds everywhere that need help with healing.

Mango Butter

Mango Butter helps to prevent inflammation that causes itchy and dry skin. It also has fatty acids that moisturize our skin. An interesting side note: A lab study tested the medicinal attributes of Mango Butter for 6 weeks. The results on humans were so beneficial, especially for dry and cracked heels! The emollient properties of the butter work great at as protection for our skin as well. There is also vitamin c in mango butter that will help to overall brighten your skin and give it a soft glow.

Mango Butter
Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil as an edible oil has scientific research backing its amazing benefits for your skin. The research for skincare benefits is not quite at that same level. However, eating it has great benefits because of its fatty acids and antioxidant properties for hydration and anti-aging. I don’t think it will hurt you to use it as a topical product, but adding this ingredient to your diet sounds promising.

Castor Oil

Castor oil helps enable collagen production and is rich in fatty acids. This enhances the smoothness of your skin and makes it look and be healthy.

Castor Oil
Goat's Milk

Goat’s Milk

Goat’s milk by itself has a ton of essential nutrients and vitamins. Vitamins A, C, D, and E all protect against free radicals which age our skin over time. Additionally, goat’s milk is also a great treatment for acne and other skin care issues like eczema. It also has a pH balance that is very close to the same as our skin. Without even thinking, we are helping our skin restore is natural and healthy state.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin Clay helps to remove toxins in your skin. This also helps to refine pores. In comparison to Bentonite Clay, Kaolin Clay will not dry out your skin. It would be counter-productive in this case to dry our your skin.

Kaolin Clay
loofah

Shredded Loofah

Loofahs are used as a physical exfoliation. The reason it is put into the soap is to help with a gentle exfoliation. You could use a regular loofah with this soap, but it will harbor a lot of diffrent bacteria. If you choose to do that, it is recommended that you give it a “bleach bath” often.

Lavender Body Soap

Body Soap

Lavender Body Soap is one of their most popular body soaps that sells really quickly at markets and events. I love the purple color and the light scent of lavender. The longer you keep the soap, the scent will fade a little bit, but the benefits of the soap remain.

Allie's Naturals, Lavender Body soap

Lavender oil is great for acne, moisture retention, helps with skin tone by calming the redness in your skin, and reduces wrinkles as well. This picture doesn’t show it well, but in person there is a purple-like tint in the soap. The soap in my hands is the sample size. The full size soap is approximately 4.2 oz.

The scent itself is great for managing stress and anxiety, which makes it a great soap to use before bed. This soap has almost the same ingredients as the Bare-Face and Body bar, with the exception of a few ingredients.

Key Ingredients

Kaolin Clay location

Brazilian Purple Clay

Brazilian Purple Clay, although not stated on the website, is another way to say Kaolin Clay. It helps nourish your skin while getting rid of toxins. It also helps to balance the oil in your skin and gets rid of dead skin. The picture provided is a site where you would find this clay and extract it for resale.

Colloidal Oatmeal

Colloidal Oatmeal hydrates and softens your skin. Oatmeal is often used to help with redness and itching, and this is no different. It also has anti-inflammatory that makes this a great soap for those who suffer from acne, eczema, and dry skin in general.

If you are interested in looking at other products that have Colloidal Oatmeal in them, you can check out one of my recent blog posts here.

Smooth-Facial Bar

Facial bar

Smooth-Facial Bar has charcoal and tea tree oil in it. This bar can be used 2 times a day for your morning and nighttime routine. This soap is another popular product that actors, TV personalities, and makeup artists love using and recommending to their clients. Not only will it give you a clean and hydrated face, but the tea tree oil is great for acne-prone skin as well. The picture of the soap in my hands is the sample size I received.

The full-sized bar pictured here is approximately 4.2 oz. and will last about a month depending on your washing needs or if the soap is shared with someone else in the household. There is a charcoal and mint smell to this soap, but it is not strong, just enough to know it’s inside the soap.

Key Ingredients

Activated Charcoal

Activated Charcoal cleanses your skin by removing impurities and unclogging your pores. A deep clean that is so useful when trying to get your foundation and other makeup products out of your face.

For men who also enjoy this soap, you can use this to help remove wood shavings from your face from construction sites, etc. You know, manly things. This soap has a nice rich lather which is great for men with beards as well for a deep clean down to the skin.

Babassu Oil

Babassu oil has antioxidants in it that help destroy free radicals that cause premature aging. This oil is also anti-inflammatory and is great for treating skin conditions like acne and eczema. Pictured is the Babassu plant where the oil is extracted from.

Tea tree oil

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree oil is popularly used for treating acne and skin rashes. I personally love it because of its antimicrobial properties and it is also anti-inflammatory. Acne patches that have Tea Tree Oil are very effective. The reason for this is because it helps calm redness, swelling and helps to reduce the amount of scarring on your skin.

Sea Breeze- Body Bar

Body Bar

Sea Breeze- Body Bar smells very fresh and reminds me of the sea. As far as looks go, I really like the slight blue-green color that is added to the soap. It’s not shown as vibrantly in the picture on the website, but in person it’s easy to see. It looks like a little wave on the beach. The soap pictured here in my hand is the sample size.

This goat’s milk soap has the same ingredients as the last two soaps except for a couple of ingredients. One of those ingredients is an added fragrance, so if your skin is sensitive to fragrance, please keep that in mind. The full size soap is approximately 4.2 oz and should last you about a month depending on your washing habits.

Key Ingredients

French Green Clay

French Green Clay, also known as Green Montmorillonite Clay, helps to remove impurities, as well as tighten and tone your skin. It also works great as an exfoliator and helps reduce inflammation in acne. It is safe to use on your full-body to soften dry and rough skin. (Excluding private parts.)

Espresso- Body Bar

Body Bar

Allie's Naturals, Espresso- Body Bar

Espresso- Body Bar is one of my favorite soaps. I love coffee to begin with but in soap form, it can be hit or miss. The light scent of espresso is perfect for a morning bath or shower to help wake you up. The soap in the coffee mug is the sample size. This soap also has fragrance in it, so if your skin is sensitive to fragrance, please keep that in mind.

The full size of the Espresso- Body Bar is approximately 4.2 oz. My sample is more of a milk chocolate color than is shown on the website as you can see in the picture. It smells so nice and lasts about a month depending on your washing habits.

Key Ingredients

Espresso

Espresso, interestingly enough, protects your body from oxidative stress. A study done on mice showed that when espresso was applied to the skin repeatedly, it caused the skin cells to go into autophagy which basically means a cellular turnover cycle. There are still more studies to be done to apply this to a medicinal method, but it has promising results in the lab!

Lemon Aide- Hand Soap

Hand Soap

Lemon Aide- Hand Soap had crushed walnuts and dried orange peel in it, but it didn’t smell like nuts or oranges. It smells just like lemonade. This was a fun soap to try and my niece (who is four) found it fun as well. The picture of the goat’s milk soap in my hand is the sample size.

When the founder, Micheal, was making this specific goat’s milk soap and selling it to his customers, it started out as just a hand soap. The feedback he got from his customers was that they loved the exfoliating properties of the walnuts and were using this soap on their bodies as well.

For this reason, this goat’s milk soap is a little bigger than the other soaps at approximately 4.4 oz. The basic ingredients of this soap are the same as the other soaps with added ingredients of ground walnut shells and dried orange peel.

Key Ingredients

Ground Walnut Shells

Ground walnut shells are very effective as exfoliators, for this reason, I would recommend using this soap on your hands and body only. The walnut shells, much like the dreaded Apricot shell debacle, are too harsh for the skin on your face.

Walnut shells
Dried Orange Peels

Dried Orange Peel

Dried Orange Peels have orange oil inside them that provides a healthy glow and moisturizes your skin. It also helps with firming, elasticity, collagen production, and micro-circulation.

Patchouli- Body Bar

Body Bar

Patchouli- Body Bar is the last goat’s milk soap in my package. This sample is another favorite soap of mine. Patchouli has so many amazing benefits for your skin, but it also has spiritual properties as well. The bar itself smells like Patchouli and is so pretty.

You can see the full design better on the full bar of goat’s milk soap. The soap pictured here in my hand is the sample size. This soap has all the usual ingredients as its base except for a few ingredients. The full-sized soap is about 4.6 oz and should last you a month depending on your washing habits.

Key Ingredients

Madder Root Powder

Madder Root Powder is enriched with a compound called Alizarin which is antibacterial. It’s also known for its ability to soothe dry skin, rashes, and inflammation.

Madder Root
Turmeric Powder

Turmeric

Turmeric is an ingredient that has been used for thousands of years, so it’s no surprise that it’s still used today. This will make your skin glow, help with acne breakouts, and moisturize your skin. It also has anti-aging properties and helps with dark circles.

Sea Clay

Sea Clay, also known as kaolinite, gently exfoliates old skin cells giving you glowing skin. It helps by absorbing excess dirt and oil and leaving you with clean skin.

How to Care for Your Goat’s Milk Soap

It’s important to keep this soap in a safe place so it will last the whole month. My recommendation would be to use either a bamboo soap holder where the empty spaces in the bamboo sticks can let the soap “breathe” or if you insist on getting a soap dish, cleaning the dish often during the week.

Anthropologie Honeycomb bath collection

If bamboo isn’t your style and you want a suggestion on a cute soap dish, I found a cute one on the Anthropology website. Due to this goat’s milk soap being a big, square shape, this is the perfect size and shape for the soap that won’t squish the corners and still look elegant.

They have a hole honeycomb set that mimics this same pattern that is super cute. If you would like to get it, you can click/tap my affiliate link here.

Witchy Tip

You could incorporate any of these bars in a cleansing meditation. The one I like to use is the Patchouli- Body Bar. You could do this in a bath, but I prefer to do this in the shower. If you aren’t familiar with this idea, a shower meditation is the use of water to physically, mentally, and spiritually cleanse stress, anxiety, and bad energies off of you. There are shower meditations on YouTube you can follow along with if you like but I like to keep mine simple.

woman in a shower

I like to picture myself as an hourglass or something similar. This will be an easier way to explain it to you. Your body is the hourglass and the black sand inside of it is what we are trying to let run out. The water comes out of the shower head and over your head. Close your eyes and picture the water getting into the hourglass through the top, pushing all of the sand to the bottom and then through your grounding cord that is attached to the center of the earth.

This is where you will need to visualize the sand or negative energy going down your grounding cord. We want all this negative energy to go to the center of the earth so it can be turned into positive energy by Spirit, God, Goddess, or whoever you pray to.

If you can’t visualize this in your head, focus on what you can see and feel. The dirt, sweat, and oils of the day are being cleared off your head and body with the goat’s milk soap and going down the drain. All of that has been removed from you. It helps to take some deep breaths in as well. By the end of your shower, you should feel squeaky clean from the inside out and in good spirits. It’s really that easy.

My Final Thoughts

woman in bathroom

Allie’s Naturals goat’s milk soaps smell very nice and make my skin very soft and clean. There are more than enough options to choose from and you really can’t go wrong. If for some reason you have an issue with your soap, you can always reach out to Micheal and let him know.

Shower or bathtime meditations need to be talked about more. You clean yourself anyway, you might as well add a shower meditation for a little extra self-care. You don’t need to buy anything for this, just shower and release. When I get out of the shower and sit on my bed, I like to imagine receiving good energy from Spirit, etc. to refill that space that was being occupied by energies you didn’t want.
